Start by submitting your interest online through our Quick Apply form or official job application portal. Once received, our recruitment team will review your information and reach out with next steps.
Qualified applicants will begin the evaluation process with a POST-certified written examination to assess reading comprehension, reasoning skills, and job-related knowledge. Candidates who pass the written exam will then be scheduled for an in-person oral interview with a panel of department personnel. This interview evaluates communication skills, professionalism, situational judgment, and alignment with the values of the Torrance Police Department. Lateral applicants may be assessed on their prior law enforcement experience, leadership ability, and readiness to transition into the department.
After successfully completing the written and oral interview components, candidates will be invited to participate in the Physical Agility Test. This POST-standardized test evaluates an applicant’s ability to perform essential physical tasks required in law enforcement, such as running, climbing, lifting, and simulated field maneuvers. The PAT ensures each candidate is physically prepared for the demands of patrol, emergency response, and officer safety.
A thorough background investigation is conducted, including employment history, references, criminal record check, credit report, and interviews with personal contacts. Integrity and character are critical for success at Torrance PD.
Candidates must complete a medical examination and psychological screening to ensure they meet the physical and mental health requirements for the role. These assessments are conducted by licensed professionals in accordance with POST standards.
New recruits will be enrolled in a POST-certified police academy, while laterals and civilian hires will proceed with onboarding and department integration.
